Hearty Potato-Noodle Soup

Submitted by Mrs. Hall:

"My grandmother often made potato soup on Sunday evening.  This recipe varies a little from "mammaw's" because my husband won't eat anything with celery or onions in it (and what is potato soup without celery and onions?).  I came up with this recipe, adding in the noodles because my husband loves them.  This is something my family would call "comfort food".  It just makes you feel good for having eaten it. Enjoy!"

5 - 6 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2" - 1" cubes
3 stalks celery
1 medium white onion, peeled and quartered
2 handfuls of wide egg noodles (homemade noodles make this extra wonderful, but store-bought works fine)
2 - 3 cloves garlic, minced or 1/8 - 1/4 tsp dried minced garlic
6 TBS butter
1/2 - 1 cup milk
